Originally part of the Gunflint Lodge property the Gunflint Pines was created when the Smiths purchased the rustic campground and 4 A-frame style cabins in the late 70’s. The Smiths built what is now the store section to serve as their main lodge. In the early 80’s they built what is now our main lodge. It boasts vaulted ceilings with pine interior and log beams.
Most often you’ll be greeted by Shari or her sister Sandy as you enter the lodge. We feel fortunate that we are still a small enough resort to be classified a “Ma & Pa” operation. We pride ourselves on the fact that we take special interest in making you relax and feel at home in the Northwoods.
The main lodge offers a sitting area with woodstove fireplace and tables for dining or playing games. Complimentary coffee is always available when the lodge is open. Often guests and neighbors stop by in the morning to grab a cup o’joe, check the weather, and share wilderness, hunting or fishing tales from the day prior. Cold days fill the lodge with guests relaxing by the fireplace or playing cards and games. We may even breakout the marshmallows and roasting sticks for indoor s’mores.
The snack bar offers pizzas, ice cream, popcorn, soup, chili and some sandwiches. We have a great gift shop area offering local crafts, housewears and Gunflint Trail souvenirs and clothing. Our store is stocked with many of the groceries and basic supplies you may need. Tackle for fishing or supplies for camping. Ice, Beer, Bait, Pop, food, snacks and Cigarettes If you’re in the area – we’d love to have you stop by!
