About Us

We are Bob and Shari Baker, owners of the Gunflint Pines Resort. We have been working on the Gunflint Trail since the early 80's and permanent residents of the area since 1991. Along with our two sons, Jaret and Wyatt, and our parents, Bob & Sharon Baker we are committed to helping you in every way possible to understand and enjoy our Northwood's as much as we do.  .

Bob first came to the Gunflint area at the age of 2 months for the first of many camping trips with his parents.  By 17 he took a summer job working the dock at Gunflint Lodge.  The following summer he was guiding fishing excursions on Gunflint, Little Gunflint, North and South lakes, Magnetic lake and the Granite river.  Throughout the years he has explored, canoed, fished and hunted much of the Gunflint Trail area.  His experience and expertise on the area lakes and knowledge of the terrain is great help to our fishermen and hunters alike.

I came to the area for a summer job at the Gunflint Lodge in the summer of 1983.  Working first the kitchen and housekeeping areas of the resort, I quickly learned that resort life, while challenging, was a life I loved.  We met in the summer of 1985, and Bob continued to guide while I pursued a degree in Hotel & Restaurant Management at the UW-Stout.  As I began to follow a corporate path with the Hyatt Hotel Company we moved to Denver then Seattle.  By 1991 we returned to live and work full time at Gunflint Lodge.  We purchased the Gunflint Pines Resort in the fall of 2001 and have been busy helping guests, both returning and new, enjoy and explore the Gunflint trail area.

Jaret was born in Grand Marais in April of 1998.  He loves to hunt, fish, trap and drive anything with a motor.  Wyatt was born in Grand Marais in November of 1999 and has many of the same loves, but also loves crafts - origami, and making his own bows and spears from wood.

We believe that most who come to the Gunflint Trail, desire an intimate experience.  From getting to know us as owners of the resort, and the history of the area and attractions, to sharing fishing, hunting and exploration stories.  We do our best to help first time guests understand what the Gunflint Trail has to offer & returning guests often become old friends!  This is not just a job for us, it is a way of life.  We hope you'll come to share our Northwoods.
