2008 Winter Trout opener
1/13/2008
While I don't have any pictures as of yet
but Trout season opened yesterday! One party in house reported
getting 4 trout averaging 2-3 lbs each. It's refreshing to hear
that there are some smaller fish in the lake. Over the past couple
years we had not seen many smaller trout and were beginning to worry
about the regeneration of the lake. The ice on the West end
of Gunflint is good varying from 14 inches closer to shore to 9 inches
towards the center. There is minimal to moderate slush - but it
didn't seem to get in the way.
Today they fished Birch lake and much to
their surprise caught 7 Splake averaging 10 inches in length. They
also got 5 Rainbow Trout with an average length of 19 inches.
