Fish, Bear & Moose oh my!

Saturday, June 13th, 2009

The Szendrey party of Duluth MN, shared these picture of their trip to the Pines last week!  A nice trout taken by Mom, a Bear crossing as they were out driving the trail and a Momma moose dining in the pond.   Look closely at the Moose picture - then tell me how many moose you see.

Kershaw party with Trout catch             Memorial weekend Trout Catch

This past weekend reports of fish were good.  The Kershaw party of Proctor Mn above displays a trout catch.  Most trout taken were a 3-4lb average.  Chloe Zylla of Montrose MN caught and released a 29.5 inch Walleye Sunday evening.  The Tischer party of Carlton MN had good luck night fishing catching and releasing a 23, 27 & 30.5 inch walleye.  The Holmes party of Holyoke reported Bass and Northern catches.  The water temps in Gunflint/Little Gun/Little North & North lakes have been reported at 43 - 53 degrees more commonly toward the cooler end.

Exahusted snowmobiler at Gunflint PinesSnowmobiling can be fun but it can also be exahusting as you can clearly see here.  Evan Nordeen of Cloquet MN was here with his family and friends this past weekend fishing and snowmobiling and just had to take a time out.

Here the Baker Boys (Wyatt & Jaret) are set to guide their cousins Nick & John (also Baker boys) on a snowmobile ride to go out fishing.Baker boys guide service

All in all it was a good weekend.  Fish were caught, weather was nice, and fun was had by all.

We be fish’n.

The lake was a little slushy after the melt down a week ago Monday, but with all the new snow we received over the past week there was a crusty layer on top of the slush just under the fresh snow.  Since then we have had another 5 or so inches and cold weather so things are frozen up again.  The ski trails were all tracked and ready by yesterday and reports are that the skiing is great.

The Holmes party of Cloquet/Duluth area had great weather on the lake last weekend.  Few fish were caught, but lots of fun was had.  Thanks for the picture!

Upper Gunflint's Ham Lake Ski Trial 2008

Thanks to the Jacobson party who sent us these pictures of their recent Cross Country Skiing and Skijoring experience here on the upper Gunflint Trial while staying with us.  While the Jacobsons have been coming here for years - this was Ian's first Skijoring experience. (Ian is the one pulling!)
