Jaret’s First Grouse

Saturday, November 25th, 2006

Wow what a day.  It's sunny and beautiful again and 39F outside.  This morning Bob took the boys out hunting.  First he took them to the Gravel pit to teach Jaret how to use the 410.  Then off they went to see if they could find Jaret a bird.  Just look at what he came home with.  His first grouse!  Guess what we'll be eating with dinner tonight!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Friday, November 24th, 2006

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!  We had a beautiful day and a wonderful meal with friends to be thankful for today.  Thanksgiving morning we went down the road to the Okontoe Sleigh Rides to visit four friends the Pattens and their Belgian Horses!  They are truely amazing animals.  They have 4 Belgians they use for Sleigh rides in the winter.  Mike, Cap, Bob & Duke.  They range in size from 1500 lbs to 2300 lbs. They loved the apples we brought, but ate them so quickly we turned to hay.  After feeding the horses we came home to stuff ourselves.  Wyatt & Jaret had a great time with their cousins Travis and Abby.  Here are pictures of Travis and Abby feeding Bob.

A little bit of Texas

Tuesday, November 21st, 2006

Today guests from Texas arrived.  They usually come in the summer months but wanted to escape the heat, see some snow and animals and spend a Thankgiving in the northwoods.  They got their wishes thus far and then some.  They parked their car on the hillside in front of the cabin and began to unload it, then it began to slip away on the slick packed snow.  All's well as it stopped as soon as it hit a rough gravel patch.  They'll have some good stories to tell to the folks back home.

Neighborhood Fox.

Sunday, November 19th, 2006

Recently we've noticed a Fox hanging around the campground.  It followed Sharon on a walk the other day, thinking she had some food in her hand.   The next time she went for a walk she was prepared with a slice of bread.  They took this picture this morning on their patio just across the road on the hillside above the lodge. They always use caution, but it's fun to see a wild animal this close.

It's bright and sunny today.  There was a fresh layer of frost on the vehicles and we still have a bit of snow on the ground, though it has melted and compacted to between 1-2 inches.  The kids have been sledding non stop on the driveway hill.  It's great to have them outside so much while the weather is nice.  The temp is 26.8F as of now.  Perhaps we'll reach the low 30's today.  It's the final day of Rifle Deer season so pretty soon we'll start posting pictures of the bucks that made it through the season.  Keep checking.

Happy Birthday Wyatt

Friday, November 17th, 2006

Today is Wyatt's birthday.  He's turning 7 - Can you believe it.  He was just under two when we bought the resort and moved here.  I remember worrying about him going down the stairs alone. or walking around outside when we were too busy to keep an eye on him all of the time.  Here's a picture of him just days before we moved here with his first Northern.  He caught it by himself while we were all busy fishing on our own.  It was about 4 lbs.  He's been a fishing nut ever since.  The second picture is of him this past August - 5 years later - wow how time flies.
