Today Bob went up help work on the site of the future Chik-Wauk Museum & Nature Center.  The Chik-WAuk Lodge was purchased from Ralph & Bea Griffith during the Creation of the BWCAW act of 1978.  The Gunflint Trail Historical Society plans to open the museum by 2010.

While returning home he came across a wolf on the Gunflint Trail.  The wolf stayed long enough for Bob to take these pictures.  Though the population seems to be considerably higher than is has been in past years, viewing Wolf along the Gunflint Trail is still more of an exception than a rule.   What a treat!

Ice out!!!

Sunday, April 29th, 2007

It's just what you've all been waiting to hear!  The ice is going out!  Many of the smaller lakes along the Gunflint Trail gave way this past week, but the larger lakes, such as Gunflint, usually hang in there a little longer.  We fully anticipated that it would be the first week of May before it began to move, but the wind started blowing last night and finally mid morning the ice gave in and started breaking up.
