Walleye, Walleye & Trout

Saturday, May 17th, 2008

Things are beginning to gear up around here.  The weather has been managable with each day offering some sunshine and some rain.  Today was sunny in the morning, windy and rainy this afternoon with a few snowflakes just to tease me.  Now the wind has died, the clouds have broken and the sun is peeking out again.

Here's a few more fish pictures from the past few days.  Bob took Jaret & Wyatt out night fishing last night.  They only got two passes in before a  storm hit and they battled their way back in - but they caught a couple Walleye.  Bob & Jan Tischer of Cloquet also hit the lake last evening and had a stringer to show off this morning.  The Mayer party caught many trout earlier this week when they went out with Guides Roger Campbell and Bob (Baker).

Water levels are high this year, and yes the ice is out!  Come fishing!

Wow!!!! Northern

Northerns are open continously on Minnesota/Canada border lakes - thank goodness because if they had caught this out of season it would have been hard to let it go.  Frank Firestone of Indiana caught this 47 inch 25lb Northern on 5lb test while fishing with Bob this monring!  Congratulations Frank!

Over the weekend friends took a trip through Round Lake into Tuscarora by canoe.  Saturday morning they woke to the fresh snow and decided to stay in the tent until late morning. But the trip was well worth it as fishing was good!  Here's a copule pictures they sent for us to enjoy

Splake for supper.

Tischer party with Splake catchThe Tischer party of Cloquet MN spent the day in canoes on a smaller inland lake and came home with a couple nice stringers of Splake.  The Weather was nice this morning and the wind kept switching directions.  Later in the afternoon the weather began to cloud over and rain, and just as they were tying the canoes on the cartop the snow began to fall.  They made it back through the white-out conditions just in time for it to stop.  Once again all is well on the Gunflint Pines homefront.
