Loon song

Monday, July 18th, 2011

Last night we sat around the marina waterfront area with several guests. We watched the beautiful sunset and perfectly calm lake. As the sun set the evening campfire was lit .  Kind of funny way to end a 94F scorcher of a day but there’s just something calming about watching the flicker and glow of a campfire. Marshmallows were toasted, s’mores were made, good conversation and laughs enjoyed.

As some of the guests departed, the loons began their evening conversation. The first yodel came from some unknown location on the vast lake of darkness stretching before us. Then a reply somwhere to the west. Another call – another reply. Thus began the dualing loon song. What an enjoyable way to end a hot and humid day.

Blueberries

Friday, July 15th, 2011

The season has begun! It’s still quite early but Wyatt and I went out for about a half hour of picking at our favorite spot yesterday. I spent most of my time just walking around surveying the crop. I ended up harvesting about a cup and a half. I found a few bushes with groups of berries but and my feeling is that the crop will not be as bountiful as the past several years. I guess we can’t have it easy all the time. There seem to be more single/double berry branches than the clusters of 6-10 that we have been experiencing. There are still several green undeveloped berries but it doesn’t seem that there are as many as in the past.

We have a chance of rain over the next few days so perhaps that will help the crop along. I’ll try to keep you posted as I continue to pick.

No Phones!!

Saturday, July 2nd, 2011

Holy Hanna it was hot yesterday! 94 with a 80% humidity – until the storm hit. Relatively moderate storm here from what I’m hearing from everyone else. Loud thunder – great lightening, wind and rain. No serous damage but the phones have been out all day – Ugh! So if you’ve been trying to contact us – e-mail is best but not immediate!

Sorry it’s been so long for a blog – we’ve just been busy!! Guests are swimming, hiking, fishing and spotting lots of wildlife! Moose, bear, fox, rabbit, dragon flies, chipmunks, birds, woodpeckers, loons and on. Stargazing is high on the list as is getting your daily dose of ice cream at the snackbar. The new favorite must be Mint Moose Tracks – it only lasted 1 day. Cookie monster and Triple Chocolate Overload, chip and mint and vanilla are in the freezer today. Stop by for a malt, cone or sunday.
