June review at the Pines

It’s hard to believe it’s July already!  June just seemed to fly by, but what a good month it was.  We were busy but also managed to fit in many of the spring projects we had to put off with such a late ice out.

This spring we’ve replaced 8 more picnic tables, built a new entry patio for the lodge porch and a walkway to the fish house.  The Marina building got a fresh coat of paint.  Grandpa made a few Hiking trail signs, and we finished cutting and clearing the link to the re-routed Lonely Lake Trail.  We finally found a permanent home for the wonderful log bench the Traxler family donated!!   Both Cottages A5 & A6 bathrooms got a facelift with new flooring, sinks and paint.  We purchased a new pontoon which has been well received, and 2 new (slightly larger) fishing boats which should arrive next week.

Fishing has been great this spring!  Guests have had great luck with the trout and Walleye too.  We have started our activities schedule for the summer:  Sunday night:  Yard Yatzhee & camfire w/s’mores lakeside.  Tuesday evenings: Camfire w/s’mores & games lakeside.  Thursday early evening:  Open Grill night – bring your own grill item we provide a salad and side dish.  And Saturday night: Campfire with a “S’mores”gasbord!  Lots of fun for kids and grownup’s alike.

Wildlife sightings have been great this past June.  So many guests have seen Moose with 1 or 2 calves – it’s fun to share their excitement.  We do have a couple ponds that sightings have been regular in – so it’s easy to direct them there to give them a better chance.  Other animals include everything to lightning bugs, Luna Moths and  Monarch Butterflies to wolves, fox and of course our resident bear. (not really resident, but he swings through at 2am occasionally).

This week July 4th falls on Thursday so we will be having twice the fun!  We’ll start with the Open grill, then move down to the waterfront for a “S’mores”gasbord campfire.  We even have a few sparklers and fireworks to keep the children (and us adult children) happy.

We wish we had more cabins and campsites as we could’ve sold out twice over!  Bookings look good for the summer, and just recently we added an availability calendar for the Aframes, cottages, lakehome and camping cabins.  You”ll find the links for each on the blog homepage.  We have to update it ourselves so it may not be 100% accurate, but it will give you a good idea of what might be left!  Then call us to check it out 218-388-4454.  We hope to see you this summer – or perhaps this fall.
