Welcome to Gunflint Pines: Feel at home in the Northwoods however you stay.

Here in the heart of the Superior National Forest, and on the edge of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, you’ll have the opportunity to enjoy many outdoor activities and abundant wildlife the Gunflint Trail has to offer.

Small and family-operated, Gunflint Pines Resort and Campground is one of the few private campgrounds on the Gunflint Trail, and the only campground on Gunflint Lake. The feel is slightly more like a family compound than a commercial resort as guests often return and get to know one another.

Oftentimes, families choose our resort for their family reunions or get togethers due to the variety of accommodations we offer. From cabins to camping cabins and RV to tent campsites, we make you feel at home however you stay.

We pay special attention to young children as we know what it can be like to vacation if children aren’t happy. We have a treat jar and board games in the lodge, and we have a playground area to help keep them busy.

Come experience life at a Northwoods Resort.

About Us

Originally part of the Gunflint Lodge, Gunflint Pines became its own resort in 1978 when Dick & Ronnie Smith purchased it from the Kerfoot family. In 2001 Bob & Shari Baker purchased it and ran it along with their two sons, Jaret & Wyatt and with the help of Bob’s parents. In January 2017 Shari became sole owner and now runs it with the help of and her sister Sandy and many long time guest friends. Jaret visits often when filming for his Youtube channel: Northern Tactics. Wyatt visits to fish when he is not flying.

The resort is a business, but it is also our home and a way of life. We welcome you to share our home. We want to help you escape the stress of your busy life and return to a simpler time. Play a board game with your kids, paddle a canoe to explore the lakeshore. Take a boat ride to Bridal Falls or Campers Island to cook a shore lunch. Listen to the call of the loon. Hike to picnic at the High Cliffs. Fish, look for moose, skip rocks, pick berries, or roast marshmallows.

Many of our guests become friends, returning to visit several times a year or help us with our spring or fall chores. We appreciate the help and enjoy watching your children and grandchildren grow. We’ll do our best to make you feel at home and help you with your needs.

We are in the wilderness. While we offer WiFi throughout property and Roku’s on the TV’s in the cabins many guests choose to “unplug” while here.

You’ll be amazed at how much you can do in a day without electronics. Gunflint Pines is a place to decompress and rejuvenate.

Simplify your life… Join us in the Northwoods!
